Life would be boring without change

This was my mantra growing up.

I loved the excitement of change--maybe because I moved a lot until my early teens, or maybe it's just in my Gemini nature.

I ran head long into new experiences with a faith that I'd land on my feet or figure it out.

For my career, I did think I had it all figured out...until a year of polisci in university made me realize my childhood dream of being a lawyer wasn't what I actually wanted.

So, I switched into English because it was flexible and I could travel, which did take me to Turkey to teach English, and after coming home I worked in the ESL industry for a while, but being a writer called me into corporate.

Finding my purpose

As a writer and trainer working for an skills development software company, I was making good money, but working crazy long days behind a computer.

When  companies started using the software to fire employees rather than develop them, that was my cue to return to university for my Masters so I could teach at post-secondary.

I earned a Masters degree in English and a Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education. I've taught academic and technical writing at post secondary, both in person and online, for 15+ years.

Helping students unlock their potential by learning how to write so they could excel at school and beyond was amazing, but eventually a toxic work environment combined with the success of my side hustle as an editor and coach inspired me to leave my regular teaching position and go into business full time for myself.

I hold a Masters degree in English and a Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education.  I've taught academic and technical writing at post secondary, both in person and online, for 15 years.

But really, when I look back over my working career,  I have taught in some capacity since 1998--from teaching ESL to conducting end-user software training.

I love it. Being able to take big ideas and break them down into practical approaches and bite-sized steps is a super power of mine.

I believe every student, every person, has the capacity to succeed in meaningful, authentic ways, even if they don't quite see it themselves. I hold space for them.

Nowadays

I coach and teach those I most want to support -- mid-career women and men who also want more out of their life and career, whether through school or some other pivot, but struggle with making the kind of progress they really want to reach that vision.

It's true that life happens at the edge of your comfort zone. It's also true that it can feel scary, confusing, and fraught with failure.

But I've learned that when something needs to change, it's time to lean in and learn.

I believe every person has the capacity to succeed in meaningful, authentic ways, even if they don't quite see it themselves.

As a certified Wayfinder Life Coach, trained through the Martha Beck Institute, I blend my experience as an instructor and coach with my lived experience to support you in getting the results you want and creating a life you love.

My Core Values

Living in Integrity

I am attuned to and trust my inner wisdom, which guides me to act in the best interests of myself and with compassion and empathy towards others. When I am in integrity, I can make the right decisions even if they aren't easy.

Acting with courage

I act courageously when I continue to practice, learn, and grow, which involves trying new things, failing, being imperfect, showing up and being seen, and being vulnerable. Taking courageous action is the pathway to creating a world that lifts everyone up.

Flowing with optimism

I flow with optimism when I assume everyone has good intentions and are doing the best they can. I am future-oriented, hopeful and have faith that things will work out. At its heart, optimism for me is the belief in the inherent goodness of people and our destiny to fulfill our higher purpose.

I'm also a Certified Life Coach, trained through the Martha Beck Institute as a Wayfinder.  I've ran my own academic coaching business since 2014 and took it full-time just as the pandemic started, coincidentally.
